Karma – Consequences in Action by Stephen Canning

Karma is often described simply as cause and effect, but spiritually it goes far deeper than that. Every thought, word, and action sets something in motion — not just in our outer life, but in our inner life as well. In every tradition, karma is really about consequences: how our choices shape our present reality and our future unfolding.

Christianity expresses this principle in the well-known verse: “Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”

Buddhism teaches that actions leave “imprints” on the mind that ripen later. Across cultures, the message is the same: your life is shaped by the seeds you plant — knowingly or unknowingly.

In Sant Mat philosophy, this universal law is described with great clarity through three categories of karma: Sanchit, Prarabdh, and Kriyaman. Together they explain why we are born where we are, why certain events unfold, and why spiritual growth is ultimately a journey of unwinding and rising above the karmic web

Sanchit Karma — The Accumulated Storehouse of Karmas

Sanchit karma is like the entire field of seeds we have sown throughout countless lifetimes.
Nothing is lost; every moment of intention, every action, every thought leaves a subtle impression on the soul.

This karma is dormant, not yet ready to manifest.

It is vast, stretching back over many incarnations.

It forms the reservoir from which the karmas of any given lifetime are selected.

Sanchit karma are the library of your past experiences — everything you’ve ever done or caused, waiting quietly in storage.

In other spiritual traditions:

Buddhism refers to this as the karmic storehouse consciousness (alaya vijnana).

In Christianity, it echoes the idea that God “remembers the heart and deeds,” even across a lifetime.

Prarabdh Karma — The Karma Playing Out Now

Prarabdh karma is the slice of Sanchit that ripens and becomes your current life’s circumstances.

It includes:

The family you are born into

Your body, health, and temperament

Major relationships

Turning points

Opportunities and challenges

The general blueprint of your life

This is the karma that has already “sprouted.” It is in motion, and according to Sant Mat, it must be lived out — like an arrow already released from a bow.

You cannot erase Prarabdh, but you can change the way you respond to it. A spiritual life helps you rise above its effects, even if the events themselves must unfold.

Christianity has a similar understanding:

“You will by no means get out until you have paid the last penny.”
This reflects the idea that certain debts must be settled before moving on.

3. Kriyaman Karma — The Karma You Create Today

Kriyaman is the most important category because this is the karma you’re creating right now.

It includes:

Your daily actions

Book cover titled “The Language of the Chakras” by Stephen Canning, focusing on body awareness and energy healing through chakras.
Your speech

Your thoughts and attitudes

The way you respond to life

The intentions behind your choices

This is the only karma you truly control.
It’s the seed you’re planting in real time.

Kriyaman karma determines:

Your future circumstances

Future incarnations

Whether you create more chains or loosen the ones you already carry

It is here that the principle from Christianity rings loudest:
“You reap what you sow.”
Your choices today become your experiences tomorrow.

This is also the idea behind the Buddhist teaching:
“Intention is karma.

How the Three Types of Karma Work Together

A simple way to understand it:

Sanchit = the seeds in storage

Prarabdh = the seeds already sprouting this lifetime

Kriyaman = the seeds you plant today

A person may have thousands of karmic seeds stored (Sanchit), only a selected bundle will be lived out this lifetime (Prarabdh), and each choice creates brand-new seeds (Kriyaman).

Karma as a Living System of Accountability

Karma is not punishment — it is education.
It’s the universe showing us the consequences of our inner state.

If we act with anger, we experience suffering.
If we act with love, we experience clarity and expansion.

Karma is life’s way of saying:
“Here is what this choice creates. Do you want more of it?”

Transcending Karma in Sant Mat

In Sant Mat, the goal is not to endlessly accumulate better karma, but to go beyond the entire karmic cycle.

How?

Through Surat Shabd Yoga, the practice of withdrawing attention inward and connecting with the inner Sound Current (Shabd). When the soul rises above the physical and subtle realms, it rises above the field where karma operates. This is the philosophy of Sant Mat. Link to Sant Mat: https://rssb.org/

Under the guidance of a true living Master:

Sanchit karma is gradually burned away

Kriyaman karma is purified

The disciple learns to remain detached even while living through Prarabdh

The soul slowly separates from the karmic machine, just as a bird rises above a storm

The ultimate goal is liberation — returning to the soul’s divine origin where karma no longer applies.

Karma as Consequences in Motion

In daily life, karma is very simple:

Your thoughts create your mindset.

Your words influence your relationships.

Your actions carve out your path.

Every choice leaves a footprint.

Karma is not “later.” Karma is now.

It’s the subtle shaping of your life moment by moment — consequences in continuous motion.

And the most empowering truth is this:

You can’t change the past, but you can absolutely change what you plant today.
And what you plant today transforms your tomorrow.

The seven rainbow colours are much more than visually appealing; they possess significant scientific, medical, and psychological importance. These colours appear in the natural world and also resonate within our bodies through the chakra system.

In nature, these colours are prominently seen in fruits, vegetables, flowers, animals, and various landscapes. Each colour of the rainbow provides distinct health benefits, and collectively these colours form white light and sunlight. Thus, the diverse benefits associated with each colour are delivered to us by Nature, primarily from the Sun, foods, and the environment.

Let us journey through the rainbow to uncover the meanings behind each colour and how they can enhance our well-being.

LET’S NOT FORGET THAT THE SUN PROVIDES ALL THESE COLOURS!

Red: Energy and Vitality (Base Chakra)

The colour red is associated with energy, passion, and life. Psychologically, it may stir the senses, quicken the heartbeat, increase motivation, and evoke feelings of excitement and intensity. Scientifically, red light has also been proven to stimulate the production of adrenaline, enhance energy levels and alertness and therefore improve physical alertness. In medical treatments, red light therapy promotes wound healing and reduces inflammation.

Foods coloured red include tomatoes, strawberries, and cherries, all of which contain lycopene and anthocyanins. These are antioxidants that can help reduce inflammation and support the cardiovascular system. Beets, a reddish vegetable, are also a source of nitrates. Nitrates can enhance blood flow and lower blood pressure.

In architecture and business decor, red is used in restaurants and retail to stimulate appetite and encourage impulsive buying, creating urgency and excitement.

Orange is a warm and inviting colour that is associated with creativity and emotional balance. Orange is the colour of warmth, enthusiasm, and creativity. It has been shown to lift mood and increase happiness.

Psychologists find that orange can enhance social interaction and lift moods. In light therapy, orange is used to combat feelings of fatigue and depression. Orange light therapy is used in the medical field as a treatment for SAD (seasonally acquired depression) simply by just mimicking natural sunlight.

On a physiological level, orange foods like carrots, sweet potatoes, and oranges contain high amounts of beta-carotene, a precursor to vitamin A. Vitamin A will help maintain good vision, improve immune function, and maintain healthy skin. The peels of citrus fruits contain considerable amounts of vitamin C, which enhances the immune response by protecting the body against infections.

Business’s use orange in areas where creativity or collaboration is to be developed, to stimulate innovation and create a friendly energetic atmosphere.

Yellow: Optimism and Digestion (Solar-Plexus Chakra)

Yellow is the colour of sunshine and is normally related to joy, optimism, and clarity of thought. Yellow light may activate one’s brain and enhance one’s concentration and cognitive activities. Psychologically, yellow heightens confidence and inspires a positive attitude.

Yellow light and surroundings can stimulate the brain and enhance focus, reducing anxiety. In chromotherapy, yellow aids digestion and boosts confidence.

Yellow foods include bananas, pineapples, and corn-all powerhouses of nutrition. Bananas contain potassium, a mineral that keeps muscles and the heart healthy. Pineapples contain the enzyme bromelain, which can aid digestion and reduce inflammation. Corn is a source of lutein, a carotenoid that enables good eyesight.

In design, yellow is used in cafes and co-working spaces to promote cheerfulness and intellectual engagement; it often results in individuals feeling energized and positive.

Green symbolizes growth, balance, and rejuvenation. (Heart Chakra)

As the colour of nature, it promotes harmony and relaxation. Green light therapy helps reduce stress and has been shown to alleviate migraine and chronic pain in some people. It has a soothing effect on the mind. Green is the middle of the visible colour spectrum and as such it can enhance our energy if it is too low or calm our energy if it is too high. Being in Nature is a great ‘balancer.’

Green vegetables are packed with chlorophyll, essential for detoxification and healing. They are rich in vitamins A, C, and K, and provide folate and magnesium, crucial for bone health, reducing inflammation, and cellular repair. Avocados, high in healthy fats, also nourish the brain.

Green is often used in architecture in spas, wellness centers, and offices to create a peaceful atmosphere and bring a person closer to feeling ‘in nature’ for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Blue: Calmness and Cognition (Throat Chakra)

Blue is linked to tranquillity, trust, and stability. It can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and promote calmness. Exposure to blue light enhances alertness and cognitive performance, though excessive screen time may disrupt sleep. Psychologically, blue induces tranquillity and reduces anxiety.

Blue foods are equally beneficial. Blueberries are packed with anthocyanins, which are antioxidants that improve brain health, enhance memory, and reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. They also have anti-inflammatory properties and support cardiovascular health. Blue corn and blue potatoes, rich in fibre, aid digestion and regulate blood sugar levels.

Blue can be used in corporate offices and financial institutions to instil confidence, professionalism, and dependability in business to help create a sense of stability. Blue lighting in some cases also enhances productivity and focus.

Indigo: Intuition and Detoxification (Third-Eye Chakra)

Indigo has a soothing effect on the nervous system; hence, it is used in meditation and mindfulness practices. In colour treatment, it has been believed that indigo light increases the activity of the pineal gland and can lead to improved sleep.

Indigo-spectrum foods, such as blackberries and plums, are rich in antioxidants that detoxify the body and protect cells from oxidative damage. These fruits also support brain health, boost immunity, and enhance skin elasticity.

Indigo is used in interior design for meditation rooms, art galleries, and upscale retail spaces to create a sense of sophistication and contemplation.

Violet: Spirituality and Anti-Aging (Crown Chakra)

Violet is often linked to spirituality and imagination. It is known for creating a calm and peaceful environment, which can aid in stimulating creativity. Violet light therapy is used to reduce emotional stress and enhance clarity of thought. Violet combines the stability of blue and the energy of red, representing luxury, creativity, and wisdom.

It is used in violet light therapy to reduce inflammation and bacteria that cause acne and improve skin health. On the psychological level, violet can be a creative stimulant and may evoke mystery.

Violet foods such as eggplants, grapes, and purple sweet potatoes provide various nutrients. They contain anthocyanins, which may help reduce inflammation, lower the risk of chronic diseases, and slow aging. Purple cabbage is high in vitamin C and fibre, which support immune function and digestive health. These foods also contribute to cardiovascular health and circulation.

Violet is used in commercial settings in luxury hotels, high-class salons, and boutiques to convey elegance, creativity, and exclusivity.

"God will be fully found inside you, not outside".

The premise that, “Contentment in Life will only be found inside Yourself, not outside!”, points to the fact that true contentment, will be found only when we acknowledge and get in touch with our divine or spiritual essence which resides within us rather than being separate or external to us. It implies that the search for God or a higher power should be directed inward, exploring our own consciousness, beliefs, and connection to the divine. One of the main ways of achieving this is through meditation instructed and guided by a Spiritual Teacher/Master.

Although I use the word ‘God’, we could easily insert the word, ‘Jesus’, Allah, ‘The Creator’, ‘Yahweh’, ‘The Divine’, ‘Jehovah’, ‘Lord’, ‘Monad’ or Satnam’.

You will witness the ‘workings’ of God outside yourself in nature etc, but the real perception of God will be your personal experience within with meditation!

The ideal starting point to achieve these insights is to meditate, focusing at the Third Eye chakra, (also called the Ajna Chara, Tenth gate, Single Eye or Tisra Til), which is located between the eyebrows. This meditation ideally uses a manta to help us focus at the Third Eye to quieten the mind from external/worldly thoughts.

Meditation serves as a tool for inner exploration or enlightenment. For the mystically inclined, meditation can is a “Portal” to the Divine, or, as Rumi would say: “A Window to God”. There is much more to meditation than stress reduction!

“The body is the only real temple of the Lord, and it is only within the body that we can gain real knowledge of him. we go and look for the Lord in mosques, temples and churches that we have built ourselves instead of looking for him in God’s own temple where he is himself ever present.” Maharaj Charan Singh – Sant Mat

“The body is the temple of the living God.” Saint Paul

“We keep our religious places neat and clean and do not even let a speck of dirt lie there, we refrain from doing anything bad and hesitate to utter an unworthy word there. But the place that the Lord has himself chosen to dwell is often quite dirty and unclean.”
Maharaj Charan Singh – Sant Mat https://rssb.org/index.html

“In the center behind and above the eyes there is an aperture; on this side of it is the material world, in which we are living now; and on the other side is the astral world.” — Huzur Baba Sawan Singh

Several key aspects of ‘finding God & Contentment inside’

Inner exploration: lets engage in self-reflection, meditation, or other practices aimed at deepening our understanding of ourselves and our connection to the divine. The answers and experiences related to spirituality lie within our own consciousness, waiting to be discovered!

A personal relationship with the divine: Instead of seeking God solely through external sources, such as religious institutions, churches, mosques, temples and synagogues, the focus shifts to nurturing a personal and direct relationship with the divine. This perspective emphasizes the idea that we can experience and connect with the divine in our own unique way.

Divine omnipresence: The premise highlights the concept of divine immanence, which suggests that the divine presence permeates all aspects of creation. It implies that God is not distant or separate from the world but rather intimately intertwined with it. Recognizing this immanence can foster a sense of interconnectedness and a deeper appreciation for the spiritual dimensions of everyday life.

Guidance and intuition – inside: By looking inward, we can tap into our inner wisdom, intuition, and guidance. By connecting with the divine within ourselves we can access a source of profound insight and discernment. This inner guidance can assist us in making decisions, navigating challenges, and finding meaning and purpose in our lives.

Transcending religious boundaries: While religious traditions and practices can provide valuable frameworks for spiritual growth, we aim to transcend rigid dogmas and limitations imposed by organized religion. Spirituality is not confined to any particular belief system but rather is a universal and personal experience that can be accessed by individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Empowerment and self-realization: God resides within each of us and it is empowering, as it emphasizes the inherent spiritual potential within us. It encourages us to recognize our own divinity and cultivate qualities such as love, compassion, and wisdom. This understanding can lead to personal transformation, self-realization, and the embodiment of spiritual values in daily life.

The premise that God is found only inside oneself promotes a shift in focus from external sources to inner exploration, emphasizing personal connection, divine immanence, inner guidance, transcending religious boundaries, and individual empowerment. It encourages us to embark on a profound journey of self-discovery, ultimately seeking to uncover and nurture our own divine essence.

In the end we may realise that we are God!
